When the temperature starts to drop, along comes a change in the air quality within our homes. During winter is very common to see an increase in damp spots, mould and condensation within the home. Now is the perfect time to assess your home to ensure that it has the right heating and ventilation to keep you & your family warm and healthy over the winter months.
Home ventilation is critical to maintaining comfort, health and indoor air quality within your home. Home ventilation is important as it keeps your home and family healthy and comfortable. Ventilation is a key component to maintaining proper indoor air quality, it keeps air flowing through the home, eliminating contaminants, condensation & moisture buildup, mould and odours.
There are 2 key home ventilation solutions we recommend for all homes.
A Fit-For-Purpose Bathroom Extractor Fan
It is important to have a correctly installed, fit-for-purpose bathroom extractor fan. Bathroom extractor fans help to prevent foggy mirrors, condensation that can cause mould & mildew, as well as eliminating odours.
When was the last time you upgraded your bathroom extractor fan(s)? Technology is ever improving, and compared to fans from 15, 10 and even 5 years ago, Bathroom Extractor Fans have come a long way and are vastly improved! If you have an older extractor fan, or feel that the fan you have may not be the right one for your bathroom, flick us an email or give us a call, we'd be happy to work with you to establish the best fan for your bathroom(s).
Here are some tips to get the most out of your bathroom extractor fan:
- Keep the fan running for at least 10-15 mins after you've used the shower - the fan needs air coming into the room to replace the air it is pulling out. We find installing a timer onto your bathroom extractor fan is useful. A timer will mean you don't need to worry about forgetting to turn the fan off.
- After you've used the shower, open the door so more air can circulate within the room, better still, if the weather if fine, open a window and let the fresh air in!
- The warmer the bathroom, the more effective the extractor fan will be. If you have a shower in a cold bathroom, it will produce a lot more steam than it would in a warm bathroom. There are a variety of solutions that can help to keep your bathroom warm such as heated towel rails, heat lamps, mirror de-misters and underfloor heating.
- Regularly clean and change the filters on your extraction fan. Dust and other debris can build up quickly, which means your extraction fan will not perform to the best of its ability. To ensure optimum air extraction, give your fan and the filter a good clean every 2-3 months.
There are plenty of bathroom extraction fan options available and we can work with you to identify what extraction fan would best suit your bathroom.
A SmartVent System
Each day, a family can produce as much as 10 litres of harmful damp air inside their home through cooking, cleaning, showering and general living (thats 3500 litres of damp air per year!) . If not actively removed that moisture can lead to condensation, mould and airborne nasties and family health problems.
If you’re seeing mould growing on things in your wardrobe, or on travel bags under your bed, you know the culprit – damp air. Moisture in the air settles in spots around your house and makes a nuisance of itself as mould.
SmartVent home ventilation systems monitor temperature conditions to ensure that you are benefiting from improved air quality always circulating around your home. It draws clean, dry and filtered air from the roof cavity and circulates it around the home which forces the moist, stale air that causes condensation, mould and mildew, out of your home giving you better air for a healthier home.
